Since the advent of Géoclip, new functions have gradually been added to its repertoire to provide even more comfort and performance for the user. New developments are still at the research stage. Géoclip is not a stagnant product but sets out to satisfy each of your requirements as effectively as possible. However, it will remain faithful to its favourite field – giving added value to statistical data using thematic cartography. So, if you are looking for a real-time positioning or route calculation solution you need to look elsewhere! But you never know, one day maybe…

That was a longwinded way to say that Géoclip can be personalised to meet a particular requirement which is currently not available. On the face of it, Géoclip Server is most suited to personalisation. Here follow some aspects which are most relevant:

The divisions commonly used for base maps are administrative boundaries. However, it may prove necessary to use other types of base maps which require prior processing to make them compatible with web use. This topological processing falls into various categories:
- division into several zones for the mapping of very large areas
- making base maps from different origins consistent
- merging/joining together of higher level base maps
- generalising/simplifying over-detailed lines.
For example, the European geographic database which describes the occupation of land (Corine Land Cover) can be integrated into a Géoclip Server application once it has undergone some processing, because it is an extremely detailed map. The result will be displayed vectorially in Géoclip and it is possible to show land use in varying degrees of detail.

Since the base maps that are used are vectorial, regardless of the scale or ease of interactivity, the line will always be plotted perfectly. This is one of the great strengths of Géoclip. But this does not prevent the user from adding a background image as it provides an undeniable aesthetic touch and useful reference elements. As for the other vectorial layer, the image may be displayed or hidden on request. It may be an aerial view, a satellite image, a road map or a town plan, etc. Special processing is required in order to add them to Géoclip.
For example, the orthophotographs of the IGN are supplied as square tiles with pre-determined size and resolution. Several layers will need to be built up, which will be displayed depending on the zoom level by joining and resampling the original tiles.
The original image may also be supplied in a single piece; it may then be necessary to re-plan and divide it onto basic tiles.

The Géoclip interface highlights the map display. However, in order to prepare a report drawing up the characteristics of a given area, other display methods may be useful. This is what the results tables editing function that has been proposed for Géoclip Server allows; a series of predefined pages which contain summary tables on the selection and also graphics which illustrate the data on the selection; sectorial diagrams, vertical or horizontal bar diagrams, population pyramids and change curves.

Finally, one last area can be personalised -adding new functions to offer the user. The interface and the programs will then need to be adapted as a result. That will necessarily involve specific developments. For example, in terms of a geomarketing project (sectoring, implementation study and optimisation of distribution network, etc.) it may be necessary to perform specific calculations and individual requests. It really can become a reality, Géoclip tailored to you!
